Stone Ranch Elementary student among water poster contest winners


A fourth grade student from Stone Ranch Elementary is among three winners of the Municipal District of Olivenhain’s 29th Annual Water Awareness Poster Contest.

Indira Jayanti received a $50 Target gift card for her rain harvest poster. It will also feature in Olivenhain’s 2023 Water Awareness Calendar.

Ariana Lemle and Emalyn Negrea, both fourth graders at Flora Vista Elementary in Encinitas, also won a $50 gift card and included their posters in the calendar. Ariana’s poster featured four different water-dependent natural landscapes, while Emalyn’s featured two swimming mermaids.

The Municipal Water District Board of Olivenhain presented the awards at its May 18 meeting.

The competition – with a “Love Water, Save Water” theme – was open to fourth-grade students who live or attend school within the Water District’s 48-square-mile service area. It includes 4S Ranch, where Stone Ranch Elementary is located.

Its goal is to teach students the value of water as a finite resource and the importance of using it wisely, while providing the district with locally produced artwork to reinforce this message to its patrons. , district officials said.

“Given the drought conditions found throughout California, educational opportunities like this encourage students to learn more about water and their environment,” said the Vice President of the Board of Trustees.
